About Boring College

A calm place to learn. No hype, no hustle — just good books.

Why Boring College?

Open-source software changed what we can build. But the way people learn to build it hasn't kept up. The best resources are locked behind expensive courses, buried in outdated forums, or scattered across thousands of blog posts.

Boring College is our answer to that: a platform where learning materials are free, open source, and built the same way great software is — by a community, in the open, with pull requests welcome.

How it works

Most books on Boring College are completely free. Many are open source — meaning you can read them, improve them, translate them, or fork them. Authors publish their books as GitHub repositories. We sync them here so you can read them in a comfortable, distraction-free interface and track your progress.

A small number of books are paid — this helps us keep the platform running and supports authors who put serious time into their work.

The philosophy

"Boring" is a compliment here. We believe learning should feel calm and approachable — not stressful, not overwhelming, not a race. You don't need gamification or streaks to learn well. You need clear writing, good examples, and the time to think.

Short chapters. No filler. Get to the point, then let you go practice.

Who built this

Hi — I'm Dariush. I'm a developer who got tired of watching great knowledge stay locked up. I built Boring College to give open-source books the home they deserve.

Want to contribute a book?

If you've written (or want to write) a practical, open-source technical book, we'd love to host it. Read the publishing spec to learn how books are structured, then get in touch.
